Saint Dunstan, Our Patron
St. Dunstan, the patron of our parish and of this diocese, was born about 909 in Baltonsboro, Somerset, in the kingdom of Wessex (part of present-day England). He died on May 19, 988.
He became a monk, and was well known as a musician, an illuminator of manuscripts, and a silversmith.
Dunstan was the abbot of Glastonbury Abbey, and later bishop of London, of Worcester, and archbishop of Canterbury. He served as an advisor to several English kings, and was, at one time, the most popular saint in England.
He is a patron saint of metalsmiths, musicians and bell-ringers.
